In 2022, GreenMax was retained by IFC to carry out a market research exercise of FIs and project developers in the global distributed solar sector to help the IFC understand the financing landscape in this market and identify potential partners for its investment and advisory activities. The study identified the FIs active in the distributed solar sector globally and provided profiles of their target market segments and existing and potential future portfolios. The research included project developers of residential and commercial and industrial (C&I) solar that are providing financing to their clients. The GreenMax team prepared a final report with an overview of the FI presence in the global distributed solar sector, a database of FIs active in the sector, and a set of profiles of key FIs in target markets, including the different business models used and key terms.
